Call – Young Theatre Contest 2020

Young Theatre contest 2020

ABOUT
Arezzo Crowd Festival 2020BETHECHANGE” is a multidisciplinary festival that will take place from 4th to 7th June 2020 in Arezzo. Created by the cultural association Officine Montecristo, this competition aims to bring the youth closer to the theatre, and at the same time, it wants to promote emerging young theatre companies.

The idea is to reverse the traditional concept of Theatrical Festival, engaging the audience before artists, through large participation and content sharing.

In fact, through the Crowd principle, Arezzo Crowd Festival wants to highlight how important it is to generate interest from the bottom, starting from the new generation’s necessities, to set up a journey of awareness, participation, development and gathering.

PURPOSE
The Festival’s main goal is to involve actively young people from 18 to 30 years old in the organisation and the designing of a theatrical festival. For this reason, we cretaed an Artistic Committee where our young staff directly decides all the main aspects of the event, such as the theme, the official image, and the theatre companies participating in the contest.

The Artistic Committee is composed by 60 young people, coming from all over Italy, who have come to know the Festival through meetings in schools, universities, cultural circles, and obviously through the use of social media. The activities of the Artistic Committee are divided into two macro areas: the choice of the artistic line of the Festival (theme, official image, selection of theatre companies) and the participation in creative activities linked to the Festival (blog, theatre group, social storytelling).
During the making of the activities and the necessary training in order to make conscious choices, the Comittee is followed by professionals who offer free training courses all year long on how to organise the festival.

The other important principle is the promotion of young professionals in the theatre world, such as emerging excellences that represent the ideal interlocutor for an audience of the same age.

For this reason the Festival opens its doors to theatre companies Under 35 who will be selected through a public call, the Young Theatre Contest, with the chance to have accomodation during the festival and win a production prize, assigned by a popular jury as well as experts.
